Jeffrey L Freeman
Jeff Freeman is a Louisville litigator with more than three decades of experience in civil trial and appellate practice. He has represented clients on both the defense and plaintiff sides of a wide range of matters, including insurance defense and coverage disputes, professional malpractice,
products liability, personal injury, municipal liability, civil rights, employment, and commercial contract disputes.
After graduating from Indiana University's Maurer School of Law in 1988, Jeff served as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas A. Ballantine, Jr., and, following Judge Ballantine's passing, to the Honorable Edward H. Johnstone, both of the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The clerkships shaped the federal court perspective he has carried throughout his career.
For more than twelve years, Jeff served as an Assistant Jefferson County Attorney on the civil staff, where his practice focused on representing the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Department of Corrections in civil rights, municipal liability, and related litigation. He also served as counsel to the Southeast Bullitt Fire Protection District. His subsequent private practice took him through several respected Louisville firms handling insurance defense, professional malpractice, and plaintiff-side personal injury and products liability work, most recently with Dolt Thompson Shepherd & Conway before establishing Freeman Legal Group in 2024.
Outside the practice of law, Jeff has long supported his wife, Louisville artist Laurie Blayney, and the two co-founded and operated an art studio and supply business together earlier in his career. Jeff and Laurie have four children and share their home with two dogs. A lifelong reader and film enthusiast, Jeff is also an illustrator, a writer, travels widely, and spends as much time outdoors as the practice of law allows.
